Michael Corr is a contemporary painter, practicing from his garden studio in Alloa, Scotland. Focusing on portraiture and figurative art, Corr’s work is driven by the process of portraying his subject(s) through an instinctive and expressive whilst considered application.
Corr’s artistic process relies on surrounding himself with material he finds emotionally & visually compelling. From newspaper clippings, photographs and film to short stories and specific colour combinations; he extracts and edits individual elements to create a pallet of inspiration which influences his work.
From an initial composition and colour pallet, Corr’s subjects are explored and personified through the use of experimental mark making with various tools. These range from the traditional to the more unusual; from hog's hair brushes to hairdresser’s combs.
